U.S. House Passes WEP/GPO Repeal; Senate on the Clock
The U.S. House recently passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, a complete repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP)/Government Pension Offset (GPO) Social Security penalties.
Now, the Senate has until the end of the year to pass it, or the process has to restart again next year. Both Ohio senators (Sen. Sherrod Brown and Sen. JD Vance) are co-sponsors of S. 597, a companion bill to the House version.
