SERS Saddened by the Passing of State Senator Kirk Schuring
Senator Kirk Schuring served with distinction for many years in the Ohio General Assembly. For Ohio’s public retirement systems, he was a champion who understood the importance of public service and the promise of a secure retirement. He provided thoughtful oversight as a leader of the Ohio Retirement Study Council and sponsored numerous pieces of legislation to strengthen the sustainability of the systems. He was a mentor to other legislators navigating the often unglamorous topics of actuarial science, fiduciary duty, and asset allocation.
Throughout our many meetings with Senator Schuring, he recognized the vital roles of SERS’ members in the operation of Ohio’s schools and SERS’ dedication in providing retirement security to them. He brought his extensive institutional knowledge to the challenges faced by SERS to improve our financial status while ensuring meaningful benefits would be there for future generations of school employees.
His wisdom and leadership will be greatly missed.
